What Cala Mesquida is like
An open beach of fine sand at the north-eastern tip of Mallorca, with a system of dunes and pine woods behind it that has been part of the Parc Natural de la Península de Llevant (Llevant Peninsula Natural Park) since 2023. The west side has been built up since the seventies; the east side is still undeveloped and ends in a low hill that runs down to the sea.

What you’ll find
- Sand
- Fine sand, about 300 × 130 m of beach.
- Facilities
- Beach bar, lifeguard, toilets, sunloungers.
- Little shade
- The pine wood is behind the dunes. On the sand the only shade comes from the hired parasols.
- Snorkelling: good
- The middle is sandy; the interesting parts are by the rocks at both ends, when the sea is calm.
- Good for kids
- Fine sand, a lifeguard in season and facilities nearby. With a north wind the swell comes in and you need to keep an eye on the water's edge.
- Dogs: not allowed
- Not during the bathing season. Capdepera allows dogs on its beaches from 1 November to 31 March, according to unofficial sources. Check with the Ajuntament.
How to get there
- By car and on foot
- There's a public car park next to the resort, about 200 metres from the beach. It's small and in July and August it fills up early in the morning; then you'll have to find a space in the streets of the resort. We haven't found any official source confirming charges or shuttle buses for this beach. You get there on the road from Capdepera to Cala Mesquida, where the Ajuntament (town council) finished road safety improvements in February 2026. From the car park in the resort it's about five minutes down to the sand. A wooden boardwalk crosses the dunes; stay on it and don't walk on the dune.
- By bus
- TIB line 422 stops in the resort (Cala Mesquida stop), about 400 metres from the sand. It connects with Capdepera and Cala Rajada, mainly in season.

In July and August it fills up, and so does the car park. The east end, further from the resort, is usually a bit quieter.
Tips and what to bring
- Get up early in summer. The car park is small and full by mid-morning. Otherwise, take the 422 bus.
- Stay on the boardwalk. The dunes are protected and the plants that hold them together get damaged with every step.
- Watch the north wind. The beach faces north-north-east and with tramuntana (the north wind) the swell rolls in. On those days a south-coast cove is a better bet.
- If there’s a storm, get out of the water and off the sand. In 2022 lightning killed two people on this beach.
- Bring or hire a parasol. The pine trees are behind the dunes and the sand is in the sun all day.
The east side, with no buildings, is the quietest. On days without a north wind, the water lies still and turquoise over the sand.

Frequently asked questions
How do I get there and where do I park?
By car from Capdepera on the Cala Mesquida road. There's a free public car park about 200 metres from the sand, but in summer it fills up early. TIB line 422 also runs here.
Does it get very busy?
In July and August, yes. Go before 10:00 or late in the day, or pick May, June or September.
Is it good for children?
Yes. It has fine sand, a lifeguard in season, a beach bar and sunbeds. With a north wind there are waves, so check the flag before you swim.
Can I bring my dog?
Not during the bathing season. Out of season, Capdepera allows dogs on its beaches from November to March. Check with the Ajuntament first.
Can I walk on the dunes?
Only on the wooden boardwalk. The dunes are protected within the Parc Natural de la Península de Llevant and must not be walked on.
Is it a nudist beach?
There's an area at the east end where people go nude. The rest of the beach is for general use.
Can I walk to other coves?
Yes. A path through the pine woods, over the coll de Marina, links it with Cala Agulla. To the west are Cala Torta and Cala Mitjana, already in Artà.
