Sand, dunes and windsurfing wind facing Ferrutx
Son Serra de Marina beach lies at the eastern end of the village, where the built-up coast stops. It's about 450 metres of sand with a few rocks, dunes behind and the Ferrutx headland opposite. It ends at the mouth of the torrent de na Borges (a seasonal stream), which separates it from s'Arenal de sa Canova, and it's one of the favourite spots in the bay of Alcúdia for windsurfing and kitesurfing.

What you’ll find

- There are a few tamarisks along the promenade, behind the sand. No parasols for hire on the beach.

- There are loose rocks and posidonia, but the water turns cloudy in the wind and there's often seaweed on the shore.

- It's quiet and there are bars next to it, but some stretches are rocky. On windy days the waves come in and the water fills up with windsurf and kite boards.
- Dogs: not allowed
- Santa Margalida's beach bylaw bans animals at Son Serra de Marina from 15 June to 15 September. The nearest dog beach is na Patana, next to Son Bauló.
How to get there
- By car and on foot
- OpenStreetMap shows several free, surfaced parking areas right behind the beach, next to the bars. On summer weekends and windy days they fill up sooner. You can also park in the village streets. Drive there following signs to Son Serra de Marina from the road between Can Picafort and Artà. Go right through the village to its eastern end, where the bars and the car parks by the sand are. The dunes are protected, so use the marked paths.
- By bus
- TIB route 316 (Inca, Can Picafort, Son Serra de Marina) ends at the Talaiot de sa Nineta stop, at the entrance to the village. From there it's about 1.5 km on foot to the beach.

It's a small village of second homes. On windy days quite a few windsurfers and kitesurfers turn up.
Tips and what to bring
- Get there early if it’s windy. On windy days lots of windsurfers and kitesurfers come.
- Bring a parasol. There are no sunbeds or parasols for hire, and the only shade is from the tamarisks on the promenade.
- Respect the dunes. They’re protected: cross them on the marked paths.
- Walk on to sa Canova. On the other side of the torrent de na Borges an undeveloped stretch of sand begins and carries on eastwards.
- Leave the dog at home in summer. From 15 June to 15 September animals aren’t allowed.
The beach faces north-east, towards the bay of Alcúdia. With a southerly or westerly wind it’s usually calm; with the tramuntana (the north wind), gregal (north-east) or llevant (east) the waves come in, which is exactly what the windsurfers are after.

Drive to Son Serra de Marina, between Can Picafort and Artà, then on to the eastern end of the village. There are free car parks right behind the sand.
