Sand, facilities and posidonia at the end of a long inlet

A white-sand beach at the end of a long sea inlet, between low pine-topped cliffs, which opens at its mouth towards Cala Serena and the islet des Faralló. It is in the development of the same name, in the part of Cala d'Or that belongs to Felanitx, and has full facilities and adapted access.

Only from the pines around the edges. On the sand you need to bring a parasol or rent one.
Snorkelling: good
Very clear water, rocks at the sides and posidonia meadows in the inlet. Towards the mouth it gets deeper and there is more life.

We have not found Felanitx's municipal rule for this beach. Check with the Ajuntament first.

How to get there

By car and on foot
The Ajuntament (town council) says there are parking spaces. According to the official beach listing there are between 50 and 100 spaces, unattended. OpenStreetMap shows street spaces next to the beach and a car park about 250 metres to the north. In summer they fill up early. Drive to the Cala Ferrera development, in Cala d'Or, along the Cala Ferrera road. The beach is at the end of carrer d'es Faralló, surrounded by hotels and apartments. It has access ramps.
By bus
The Cala Ferrera-Cala Serena TIB stop is about 450 metres from the beach. According to OpenStreetMap, lines 428, 515 and 521 stop there. Cala d'Or's little tourist train also stops at Cala Ferrera. Check tib.org to see which lines and timetables are running this year.
By boat
It has an anchoring area, and small boats, kayaks and paddleboards are for hire on the beach.

The Ajuntament rates it as having high visitor numbers. It is surrounded by hotels and apartments and in July and August the sand is full from mid-morning.

Tips and what to bring

  • Arrive before 10:00. The development is full of hotels and in summer the sand and the parking spaces go early.
  • Mask and snorkel. Swim towards the mouth of the inlet along the rocky sides; in the middle there are posidonia meadows.
  • Respect the posidonia. If you come by boat or kayak, anchor in the buoyed area and not over the seagrass.
  • Stroll over to Cala Esmeralda. It is in the next inlet, a few minutes’ walk away.
  • Cala Serena, opposite. It shares the mouth of the inlet with Cala Ferrera.

The cove opens to the south-southeast, so the sun shines straight in for most of the day. With a tramuntana (the north wind) or a ponent (west wind) it is usually calm; with a migjorn (south wind) or levante (east wind) the waves come in through the mouth.

Where do you park for Cala Ferrera?

In the development's streets and the nearby car parks, all free. In summer they fill up early, so it pays to arrive before 10:00.

Does it have facilities?

Yes. There is a lifeguard in season, toilets, showers, sunbed and parasol hire, a bar, a restaurant, a playground and water sports equipment for hire.

Is it wheelchair accessible?

Visit Felanitx lists ramps, an accessible toilet and showers, an amphibious chair and walker, and an assisted bathing service. Confirm times and availability with the Ajuntament before you go.

Is it good for children?

Yes. The water is calm and shallow, there is a lifeguard in summer and a playground. The problem is the lack of space on the sand in August.

Can you bring a dog?

We have not found a specific rule. As it is a beach with facilities and a lifeguard, check first with the Ajuntament de Felanitx.
