An arm of the sea below the Fumat
A long sea inlet open to the northeast, wedged between cliffs in the heart of the Formentor peninsula. At the far end there is a small beach of rounded pebbles and, on the rocks on one side, some old wooden escars (boat shelters) for keeping boats. Apart from that there are no buildings or facilities: just rock, càrritx (a tough local grass) and turquoise water.

What you’ll find
- Pebbles
- Rounded pebbles, gravel and coarse sand; rock and posidonia seagrass underwater, about 45 × 30 m of beach.
- Facilities
- None: no beach bar, no toilets, no lifeguard. Bring everything you need.
- No shade
- There are no trees by the shore. Bring a parasol.
- Snorkelling: excellent
- Very clear water, loose rocks inside the cove and rocky seabed with posidonia.
- Kids, with care
- The way down has loose stones, the beach is pebbly and there are no facilities or lifeguard.
- Dogs: no specific rule
- Llenaire is the only beach in Pollença set aside for dogs. We have not found a specific rule for this cove; check with the Ajuntament (town council) before you go.
How to get there
- By car and on foot
- From 15 May to 18 October 2026, between 10:00 and 22:00, the stretch of the Ma-2210 from Formentor beach to the lighthouse is closed to unauthorised cars. Outside those hours, you can only leave the car in the white-painted bays on the roadside; the cove's old car park is closed. The path leaves the Formentor road (Ma-2210) by the turn-off for Cala Murta, near km 13, where the "Cala Murta - Cala Figuera" bus stop is. It is a dirt track of around 1 km that runs down to the beach. The last stretch is steep with loose stones, and the way back is uphill all the way.
- By bus
- In season, TIB line 334 (Alcúdia - Port de Pollença - Formentor lighthouse) stops at "Cala Murta - Cala Figuera", about 15 minutes' walk from the beach. It runs every 35 minutes for most of the day. You can park for free on the service roads along the Port de Pollença ring road and head up from there.
- By boat
- In good weather you will often see sailing boats and llaüts (traditional Mallorcan boats) anchored inside the cove.

The seasonal road closure limits how many people arrive, but in summer there are boats at anchor and swimmers coming down from the bus. Early in the morning and late in the day it is calmer.
Tips and what to bring
- Check the wind forecast. The cove faces northeast. With a tramuntana or gregal the sea comes in and swimming is no longer relaxed.
- Go up by bus or bike in season. From 15 May to 18 October, 10:00 to 22:00, cars cannot go beyond Formentor beach. Line 334 stops right by the path.
- Walking shoes. The last stretch down has loose stones, and the shore is pebbles and rock.
- Water, a parasol and a snorkel mask. There is nothing at the cove, not even a patch of shade on the shore. The rock and posidonia seabed is worth some time with a snorkel.
- Leave the escars as they are. The wooden huts and ramps on the rocks shelter boats. Don’t climb on them.
In the morning the sun shines straight in through the mouth of the cove. Late in the day the sun drops behind the mountains and the cove falls into shade.

Frequently asked questions
How do you get to Cala Figuera in Formentor?
On foot, along a path of around 1 km that leaves the Formentor road by the Cala Murta turn-off. It takes about 15 or 20 minutes to walk down. From 15 May to 18 October, 10:00 to 22:00, you go up on TIB line 334, by bike or by taxi, because the road is closed to private cars.
Where can you park?
There is no car park. In season, between 10:00 and 22:00, you cannot drive up: park in Port de Pollença and take the bus. Outside those hours, only in the white-painted bays on the roadside. Parking outside them will get you fined.
Does it get very crowded?
Less than coves you can drive right up to, because in summer you can only get there by bus or bike. Even so, there are usually boats at anchor. First thing and late in the afternoon it is quieter.
Is it good for children?
Only with children who are good walkers. The way down has loose stones, the climb back is tiring in the heat and there is no shade, facilities or lifeguard.
Can you bring a dog?
In Pollença the only beach set aside for dogs is Llenaire. We have not found a specific rule for Cala Figuera: if you bring a dog, keep it on a lead and check first with the Ajuntament.
Is it safe for swimming?
There is no lifeguard. The cove is open to the northeast, so with a tramuntana (the north wind) or a gregal (northeast wind) the waves come in. Sometimes there are jellyfish. Swim when the sea is calm and watch out for motorboats coming in to anchor.
