Dunes and low rock between Cala Torta and Cala Estreta
An unspoilt cove of fine sand and pebbles in the Parc Natural de la Península de Llevant (Llevant Peninsula Natural Park), between Cala Torta and Cala Estreta, with a small dune system behind it and pine woods on the left. In 2008 and 2009 the old beach bar was knocked down and the tarmac removed to bring the dunes back. Since 2024 you can only get there on foot, by bike or by sea.

What you’ll find
- Mixed
- Fine sand and pebbles, with flat rock along the sides. Posidonia often piles up at the water's edge., about 80 × 80 m of beach.
- Facilities
- None: no beach bar, no toilets, no lifeguard. Bring everything you need.
- Little shade
- The pine wood is on one side of the cove. There are no trees on the sand.
- Snorkelling: good
- The middle is sandy. The interesting parts are on the flat rock at the sides, only when the sea is calm.
- Kids, with care
- You have to walk about 20 minutes carrying everything and there are no facilities. And as it faces north-east, the swell comes in with a north wind.
- Dogs: no specific rule
- We haven't found a specific rule for this cove. According to unofficial sources, Artà only allows dogs on its beaches from October to April. Inside the natural park, keep your dog on a lead.
How to get there
- By car and on foot
- You park on the dirt area at the junction, next to the chain, free of charge. It's the same one used for Cala Torta. In 2025 the Govern (Balearic government) announced an organised car park at that junction, planned for 2026. Driving beyond the chain is prohibited. From Artà, take the Capdepera road and then the Cala Torta track, about 10 km towards the coast. At the junction of the tracks to Cala Torta and Cala Mitjana, a chain has blocked vehicles since spring 2024. From there you continue on foot along the left-hand track, badly broken tarmac for about 1.2 km without any big climbs, to the cove.
- By bus
- There's no stop nearby. The closest is at Cala Mesquida (Capdepera), from where you can walk west along the coast, past Cala Torta.
- By boat
- You can arrive by sea and anchor off the cove, carefully, as the water is shallow.

It gets fewer people than neighbouring Cala Torta, especially since you can no longer drive there. In August, in the middle of the day, it can get fairly busy.
Tips and what to bring
- Food and water for the whole day. There’s no beach bar or drinking fountain, and the track back has no shade.
- Check the wind before you set off. The cove opens to the north-east: with tramuntana (the north wind) or gregal (the north-east wind) the waves roll in and posidonia piles up on the shore.
- Comfortable shoes. It’s about 20 minutes on a track of broken tarmac and dirt from the chain.
- Don’t walk on the dunes. They were restored only a few years ago and are still fragile.
- Take your rubbish home. There are no bins, and the cove is part of a natural park.
If Cala Torta is packed, Cala Mitjana is usually quieter and only about 10 minutes away over the coastal rocks.

How do I get to Cala Mitjana in Artà?
