White sand and shallow water a stroll from the village

A beach of fine white sand at the eastern end of Colònia de Sant Jordi, a short walk along the coast from the harbour. Low rocks split it into two stretches, there are protected dunes and pine woods behind it, and just offshore lie the islet of na Guardis and other islets that shelter it from the open sea.

The interesting bits are the rocks at both ends and in the middle, with posidonia around them. The sandy bottom in the centre has little marine life.

The ses Salines beach by-law bans animals on all its beaches from 1 March to 15 November, except guide and assistance dogs.

How to get there

By car and on foot
There's no parking right by the sand. On the east side of the village there's a free open-air car park, about 10 to 12 minutes' walk away, and angled spaces in the plaça des Dolç. You can also leave the car near the harbour and walk along the promenade. In summer it's hard to find a space. You reach it on foot from Colònia de Sant Jordi. From Platja des Port, follow the coastal promenade east, a short, flat walk. The camí de sa Vall, which crosses a private estate towards es Dolç and es Carbó, isn't an option by car for visitors.
By bus
TIB bus line 517 (Santanyí, Colònia de Sant Jordi, Campos) stops in the Colònia. The Marquès del Palmer stop is about 500 m from the sand. Check timetables at tib.org.
By boat
At Platja des Port you can hire motorboats, pedalos and kayaks, and at es Dolç you can hire pedalos. Boats to Cabrera leave from the Colònia harbour.

It's right next to the village and in July and August it gets packed, especially near the beach bar. The stretch furthest from the Colònia usually has more room.

Tips and what to bring

  • Walk there. It’s a stroll from the harbour, and parking nearby in summer is tricky.
  • Bring a parasol. The pine woods are behind the sand and at midday there’s hardly any shade; you can hire them in season.
  • Mask and snorkel. Swim towards the rocks, where there’s more life among the posidonia.
  • Keep off the dunes. They’re fenced off to protect them; get onto the sand by the marked paths.
  • Stay for sunset. The sun sets over the Colònia harbour side.

The beach faces south-west, towards na Guardis and the islets that shelter it. With the tramuntana (north wind) or levante (east wind) it’s usually calm; with the migjorn (south wind) or llebeig (south-west wind) some swell comes in, although the islets break it.

How do I get to Platja des Dolç?

On foot from Colònia de Sant Jordi, following the coastal promenade from Platja des Port. It's about 10 minutes along a flat path.

Where can I park?

In the village. There's a free car park on the east side of the Colònia, about 10 minutes' walk away, and spaces on the street. In summer they fill up early.

Is it good for children?

Yes. The water is shallow and usually calm, and in season there's a lifeguard, sunbeds and a beach bar.

Can I bring my dog?

Not from 1 March to 15 November. The ses Salines by-law bans animals on all its beaches during those dates, except guide and assistance dogs.

Is nudism allowed?

No. The 2023 ses Salines beach by-law bans nudism on all beaches in the municipality.

What's the islet you can see offshore?

It's na Guardis, an islet with the remains of an ancient Punic trading post. The seabed around it holds the remains of ancient boats.
