A fishing cove of slipways and red rock

Banyalbufar's natural harbour: a beach of pebbles and shingle below reddish cliffs, with a row of boathouses and escars, the slipways where boats are hauled up. Around it there's a small cluster of houses among the pines and two restaurants. It's mostly locals who come here.

What you’ll find

Pebbles
Pebbles and shingle, often with posidonia remains, and rock at the sides, about 80 × 10 m of beach.

The beach is in the sun. There are pines behind the boathouses and along the coastal path.
Snorkelling: good
Rock and posidonia on the seabed at the sides of the cove, with clean water on calm days.
Good for kids
The car is close by and when the sea is calm swimming is easy. But the shore is pebbly, there's sometimes posidonia and there's no lifeguard. Bring water shoes.
Dogs: no specific rule
We haven't found a local rule for this beach. Check with the Ajuntament de Banyalbufar (town council).

How to get there

By car and on foot
There's a surface car park with about 30 spaces less than 100 metres from the shore, plus a few more spaces on the street by the entrance to the hamlet. In summer it can fill up. If it's full, don't leave your car on the road down. From the Ma-10, between Banyalbufar and Esporles, the Port des Canonge road branches off: narrow, heading downhill with lots of hairpin bends. It ends at the cluster of houses, next to the beach. On foot you can get there from Banyalbufar along the camí de Baix, also called sa Volta des General: about 4.2 km along the coast, via Son Bunyola and Cala Gata.
By bus
There's no bus to the beach. TIB route 202 stops in Banyalbufar; from there you can walk along the camí de Baix, a little over an hour.

It's mostly islanders, with few tourists. In July and August, and at weekends, the car park and the shore fill up around midday.

Tips and what to bring

  • Water shoes. The shore is pebbles and shingle, and you walk into the water over stone.
  • Drive down slowly. The road has hairpin bends and narrow stretches.
  • Book if you want to eat. The two restaurants in the cove are small and fill up in season.
  • Respect the escars and the boats. The slipways and huts belong to the local fishermen.
  • Check the wind before you go. The beach opens to the north: with the tramuntana (the north wind) the waves come in and the shore fills with posidonia.

If you enjoy walking, leave the car in Banyalbufar and come along the camí de Baix, which passes Son Bunyola and Cala Gata before reaching the cove.

How do I get to Port des Canonge?
