Fine sand and pines down to the water
A long, narrow beach of fine white sand at the head of the cala del Pi de la Posada, inside the bay of Pollença. The pine woods come almost down to the water, and opposite lies the Illa de Formentor (Formentor island). At the east end is the old Hotel Formentor, now a Four Seasons, and at the west end, the jetty for the boats from the Port.

What you’ll find

- It's a beach with facilities, and Llenaire is the only beach in Pollença set aside for dogs. The rule may be different out of season; check with the Ajuntament (town council).
How to get there
- By car and on foot
- There are paid car parks next to the beach. From 15 May to 18 October 2026, between 10:00 and 22:00, cars can only drive up while there's space: a barrier at km 2, on the way out of the Port, closes when the car park is full. Beyond the beach, towards the lighthouse, the road is closed to unauthorised cars during those hours. OpenStreetMap lists a rate of about €0.08 per minute, with a daily maximum of €22 to €25. You get there on the Formentor road (Ma-2210) from Port de Pollença. The turn-off for the beach is at around km 8, before the closure point at km 8.7. From the car parks, a flat path of about 400 m through the pines leads down to the sand.
- By bus
- In season, TIB line 334 (Alcúdia - Port de Pollença - Formentor lighthouse) stops at "Platja de Formentor", next to the west end of the beach. It runs every 35 minutes for most of the day. You can park for free on the service roads off the Port de Pollença ring road and go up from there.
- By boat
- From April to October a scheduled boat leaves from the quay at Port de Pollença (Lanchas La Gaviota). The crossing takes about 25 minutes and docks at the beach jetty. For 2026 they advertise €18 return.

In July and August the car park fills up in the morning and lots of boats anchor offshore. On weekdays, first thing and late in the afternoon it's calmer.
Tips and what to bring
- Arrive before 10:00. At that time there’s no control on the road yet and there’s still room in the car park. If you arrive later in summer, take the 334 bus or the boat from the Port.
- Look for shade under the pines. The pines come down to the sand and give shade at the back. If you want to be close to the water, bring a parasol.
- Watch for southerly winds. The beach faces south and the tramuntana barely reaches it. With the migjorn (the south wind) or the xaloc (the south-east wind), some swell comes in.
- Mask and snorkel at either end. The middle is sand and posidonia. There’s more life on the rocks at the points.
- Swim away from the jetty. The scheduled boats dock at the west end and there’s a lot of traffic in season.
The beach faces south, so the shore gets sun almost all day. Late in the day, when the boats leave, the water goes still and the beach slowly empties.

Frequently asked questions
How do I get to Platja de Formentor?
By car on the Formentor road from Port de Pollença, on TIB line 334 in season, or on the scheduled boat from the Port (about 25 minutes). From the car park it's about 5 minutes on foot.
Can I park in summer?
Yes, while there's space. From 15 May to 18 October, 10:00 to 22:00, a barrier at km 2 closes the road when the beach car park is full. It's paid, and in July and August it fills up early. Before 10:00 there are no restrictions.
Does it get busy?
Yes, in July and August it gets packed. Lots of people arrive by boat, and plenty of boats anchor offshore. Early, late in the afternoon and in spring or autumn it's much quieter.
Is it good for children?
Yes. The sand is fine, the water deepens gradually and it's usually calm. There's shade from the pines, facilities and a lifeguard in season.
Can I bring my dog?
Not in season. In Pollença the only beach set aside for dogs is Llenaire. Out of season, check with the Ajuntament first.
Is it safe for swimming?
Usually, yes: the beach faces south and is sheltered from the tramuntana (the north wind). With a southerly or south-easterly wind some waves come in. Swim inside the buoyed area and take care near the jetty, where the boats dock.
