A town beach facing the Illa d'en Sales
The main beach in Portals Nous, which the council calls Platja de l'Oratori, sits between the Puerto Portals breakwater and Bendinat. It has 170 metres of sand with the Illa d'en Sales islet just offshore and, up on the rock, the oratory of the Mare de Déu de Portals, which gives the beach its name.

How to get there
- By car and on foot
- The council factsheet lists a public car park, a disabled parking bay and a regulated parking zone (ORA) in the surrounding streets. In summer it's hard to find a space by mid-morning. From the Palma to Andratx motorway, take the exit for Portals Nous and Puerto Portals. The beach is next to the harbour's eastern breakwater, a few steps from the street. There's a boardwalk down to the sand and an amphibious beach wheelchair service, according to the council's beach factsheet.
- By bus
- The Plaça de Portals stops, about 350 metres away, are served by TIB routes 105, 108 and 123, according to OpenStreetMap. Check timetables at tib.org.
- By boat
- You can anchor between the beach and the Illa d'en Sales, on sand and seaweed in about 3 metres of water, according to Visit Calvià. There are rocks at the eastern end that are best avoided.

The council rates it as busy. It's the beach of a tourist resort, right next to Puerto Portals, with 120 sunbeds and buses from Palma.
Tips and what to bring
- Get there early or come by bus. In summer the car park fills up by mid-morning. The Plaça de Portals stops are five minutes away.
- Parasol or hire one. There are no trees over the sand; parasols and Bali beds are for hire.
- Mask and snorkel. Swim towards the rocks at the eastern end and look at the posidonia on the way to the islet, keeping an eye out for boats.
- Walk up to the oratory. The chapel of the Mare de Déu de Portals sits above the beach, and its viewpoint looks out over the Illa d’en Sales.
- Leave the dog at home. Pets aren’t allowed on Calvià’s beaches, and this one’s no exception.
The beach faces south, towards the bay of Palma, with the Illa d’en Sales in front. With the tramuntana (the north wind) it’s usually calm; with the migjorn (the south wind) or llebeig (the south-west wind) some swell comes in.
