A small pebbly fjord between pine trees
A narrow, elongated inlet on the south side of the Formentor peninsula, open to the east-south-east. At the far end there's a pebble beach about 85 metres long, with pine and holm oak on the slopes and a private house among the trees. You walk in along a track through the Formentor estate, and there are no facilities at all.

- Round pebbles and gravel; rock and posidonia underwater, about 85 × 25 m of beach.
- Facilities
- None: no beach bar, no toilets, no lifeguard. Bring everything you need.
- Little shade
- The pine trees at the head of the cove give some shade in the morning. From midday there's little left.
- Snorkelling: excellent
- Very clear water and rock walls on both sides of the cove, with fish and posidonia.
- Kids, with care
- The path is easy, but it's about 25 minutes each way and the way back is uphill. The cove is pebbly, with no shade, facilities or lifeguard.
- Dogs: no specific rule
- Llenaire is the only beach in Pollença set aside for dogs. We haven't found a specific rule for this cove. The path also crosses a private estate: check with the Ajuntament (town council) first.
How to get there
- By car and on foot
- From 15 May to 18 October 2026, between 10:00 and 22:00, the stretch of the Ma-2210 from Formentor beach to the lighthouse is closed to unauthorised cars. Outside those hours, you can only leave your car in the spaces painted white on the verge; the old Cala Figuera car park is closed. You can't drive along the estate track. The path starts on the Formentor road (Ma-2210) near km 13, next to the "Cala Murta - Cala Figuera" bus stop. Go through a gate beside the estate houses and follow a tarmac track of around 1.7 km through the pine trees to the cove. It's a private road belonging to the Fundació Rotger Villalonga, with public access on foot only. The way there is almost all downhill and the way back a gentle climb.
- By bus
- In season, TIB line 334 (Alcúdia - Port de Pollença - Formentor lighthouse) stops at "Cala Murta - Cala Figuera", at the start of the path. It runs every 35 minutes for most of the day. You can park for free on the service roads along the Port de Pollença ring road and take the bus up from there.
- By boat
- It's a popular anchorage: in good weather there are usually sailing boats and llaüts (traditional Mallorcan wooden boats) inside the cove.

As you can only get there on foot or by boat, there are fewer people than at beaches where you can drive right up to the sand. In summer there are usually boats at anchor, though.
Tips and what to bring
- Take the bus or bike up in season. From 15 May to 18 October, 10:00 to 22:00, cars can’t go beyond Formentor beach. Line 334 stops at the start of the path.
- Stick to the track. It’s a private road with public access on foot. Respect the gates and the estate houses.
- Bring water shoes. The shore is pebbly and there are stones where you get into the water.
- Mask and snorkel along the walls. Both sides of the cove are rocky, with very clear water.
- Go in the morning. The sun shines in through the mouth of the cove and the wind usually picks up after midday.
The cove faces east-south-east and is sheltered from the Tramuntana (the north wind). In the afternoon the sun drops behind the ridges and the cove falls into shade.

How do I get to Cala Murta?
On foot, along a tarmac track of around 1.7 km that starts on the Formentor road near km 13, next to the "Cala Murta - Cala Figuera" stop. It takes about 25 minutes. From 15 May to 18 October, 10:00 to 22:00, you get there on TIB line 334, by bike or by taxi, because the road is closed to private cars.
Can I drive to the cove?
No. The track is private and only has public access on foot. Outside the road closure hours you can leave your car in the spaces painted white on the verge, near the start of the path.
Does it get very busy?
It's usually quiet, because you can only get there on foot or by boat. In summer there are boats anchored inside the cove.
Are there any facilities?
We haven't been able to confirm any: no beach bar, no toilets, no lifeguard. Bring water, food and water shoes for the pebbles.
Can I bring my dog?
In Pollença the only beach set aside for dogs is Llenaire. We haven't found a specific rule for Cala Murta, and the path crosses a private estate. Check with the Ajuntament first.
Is it safe for swimming?
There's no lifeguard. The cove is open to the east-south-east and sheltered from the Tramuntana (the north wind), but with Llevant (the east wind) or Xaloc (the south-east wind) the swell comes in. Watch out for motorboats coming in to anchor.
